Description
Identify and read an article of your choice Your article should be about epidemiology topics ” epidemiology experimental study” and post an attachment of the article along with your evaluation of the article.
Identify and read an article of your choice. It must meet the following criteria:
- from a peer-reviewed journal
- an experimental research study (Experimental Study Type).
Read your article and post an attachment of the article along with your evaluation of the article.
Consider the following when evaluating your article:
- What was the primary purpose of the research study (i.e., what was the hypothesis they were investigating?)
- What were the treatment(s) and control(s)?
- What types of individuals were included in the sample?
- What strengths and weaknesses did the authors identify?
- What additional research needs to be done on the topic?
Here an example to your answer:
Experimental Study
What was the primary purpose of the research study (i.e., what was the hypothesis they were investigating?)
– To determine the impact of caffeine intake on the intraocular pressure behavior during low-intensity endurance exercise
What were the treatment(s) and control(s)?
– Treatment: caffeine intake group
– Control: placebo group
What types of individuals were included in the sample?
– 18 physically active individuals (10 women and eight men)
What strengths and weaknesses did the authors identify?
– Strengths: compared the cardiovascular response to exercise between the caffeine and placebo conditions to tell whether intraocular pressure changes induced by caffeine ingestion are associated with heart rate differences
– Weaknesses: intraocular pressure responses to caffeine are subject-specific, did not differentiate between high and low caffeine consumers, caffeine dose and timing of administration were based on the recommendations given to achieve the ergogenic effects of caffeine on physical performance, type of physical exercise (i.e., isometric, and dynamic exercises), exercise intensity, participants’ fitness level, and level of dehydration are known to modulate the IOP response to exercise
What additional research needs to be done on the topic?
– future studies should explore the effect of caffeine consumption before exercise on ocular perfusion, future studies will assess the mediating role of the type of physical exercise (i.e., isometric, and dynamic exercises), exercise intensity, participants’ fitness level, and level of dehydration on the intraocular pressure response when caffeine is consumed before exercise, and the inclusion of glaucoma patients in future studies
