Outline:
-Abstract: Introduce spinal fusion surgery origins and why they are performed today (herniated disc, severe stenosis)
-First Lumbar Fusion Surgeries and most popular approach in 1992 (ALIF, XLIF, or TLIF)
-Transition to TLIF
-Transition to MI-TLIF (minimially invasive methods)
-What the future holds for new methods or approaches
-Conclusion
The literature review will cover how lumbar fusion surgeries have progressed over the past 30-40 years. The outcomes of the procedure have drastically improved due to anatomical approach, instrument and implant improvements, and modification to the rehabilitation protocols following the surgery. This project will focus specifically on how minimally invasive spine surgery have improved all of the aspects listed above.
