I’m working on a cultural studies discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Does mass commercialization (the corporate adoption of something to make massive amounts of money) destroy the authenticity of a cultural product? Or does authenticity increase a product’s commercial value? What does it mean that we can answer yes to both of these questions? Can there be a divide between authenticity and commercial value and how would you as an individual define it? (Another way of asking this is when is something authentic and when is it commercial and do you care if there’s a difference between the two?)
