1.0 Title:
Illegally Copying Software by La Roche Students
2.0 Purpose:
There is an ongoing issue with downloading software illegally. La Roche is aware of the misuse of software and copying other’s software instead of buying it individually. Using unlicensed software is a serious issue that could negatively affect students at La Roche College. It is illegal to copy software without authorization and can come with serious consequences. The purpose of this policy is to further the growth of students and help them and the college achieve success not failure.
3.0 Policy Statement:
This policy is intended to show La Roche’s commitment towards helping its students and continuing to grow and offer educational opportunities to people around the world. This policy will help La Roche be a more responsible institution by addressing the problem of software piracy.

5.0 Applies To:
La Roche College students and all devices owned or provided to by the College and the use of personal computers while on campus grounds.
6.0 Policy Guidelines:
1. The students at La Roche College are not allowed to duplicate, distribute, or download any copyrighted software on campus. Students who are caught doing so are subject to the consequences listed below.
2. All students must abide by all terms of the software license agreement.
3. Students must not accept any unlicensed software from someone else.
4. The students cannot direct any others to install any illegal copies of software onto a computer on campus.
5. The student who goes against these rules is obligated to pay or deal with any damages or lost profits and is subject to disciplinary action.
6. La Roche College students are expected to have full responsibility for their actions and to follow the laws and penalties regarding software piracy.
7. In some cases, involving the action of committing software piracy, an individual may have to go through prosecution through the courts.
8. The college may get in touch with the student’s parents or guardian in the result of violating these guidelines and if they are subject to disciplinary action.
7.0 Definitions:
Illegally copying software: Illegal copying, distribution, or use of software
Unauthorized: Not having permission or approval to do something
La Roche College Student: Any full-time or part-time student currently enrolled at the college
Software: Programs used to operate computers and consists of data or computer instructions
Campus: The grounds and buildings of a university
Duplicate: Make an exact copy of
Software Piracy: Unauthorized copying or sharing of copyrighted software including installing multiple copies of software on a computer
8.0 Responsibilities:
The staff and student resident assistants have the responsibility to impose this policy and to follow its guidelines.
9.0 Procedures:
If a student is found violating this policy, as listed above, he/she will be held fully responsible and must be subject to any disciplinary action deemed appropriate. He/she must deal with the consequences and be held accountable for any damages or costs. If done more than once, the student may be removed or banned from residence halls or further penalties.
10.0 Continuous Renewal
This policy shall be evaluated in 5 years from its effective date to determine its effectiveness and appropriateness. This policy may be evaluated before that time to reflect any changes.
