Case Analysis
After reading the Shimano case, analyze Shimanos competitive advantage in high-end road bikes at the time of the case based on the concepts you have learned in this module. Put yourself in the shoes of the Shimano CEO when they introduced the integrated drive train in the 80s and use the case details to think through these questions:
How did Shimano deal with the rivalry problem?
How did they, as a component supplier, overcome the power of the frame makers?
As you think through these questions, consider how Shimanos resources, capabilities and practices might affect any of the following:
Drivers of the customers willingness to pay,
Opportunity cost of the suppliers, and/or
Bargaining power of the frame makers
